According to a report by The Quint, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was married to Manju Kumari Sinha on February 23, 1973. This inter-caste marriage was arranged by their families. While Nitish is an OBC, his wife Manju is a Kayastha. At the time when Nitish Kumar started understanding the intricacies of politics, his wife Manju was working as a teacher in a school.

Nitish Kumar was born on 1 March 1951 in Bakhtiyarpur, Bihar to his parents Kaviraj Ram Lakhan Singh and Parmeshwari Devi. His father was an Ayurvedic physician, while little is known about his mother, who was from Nepal. After completing schooling, Nitish joined Bihar College of Engineering (now NIT Patna) in 1972 to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. After completing his graduation, Nitish Kumar got a job in the Bihar State Electricity Board.

After gaining some political experience, Nitish Kumar joined the Janata Party and started learning the tricks of politics from famous political leaders like Satyendra Narayan Sinha. At the age of 26, Nitish Kumar contested the 1997 Lok Sabha elections from Harnaut but lost.
In 1980, Nitish Kumar tried again but once again he had to face defeat in the elections. After facing defeat twice from the Janata Party, Nitish had decided to quit politics. However, after some deliberation with his close ones, he participated in the 1985 elections and won from Harnaut and reached the Assembly. Since then, he has become the Chief Minister of Bihar nine times. Not only this, Nitish Kumar is also the longest-serving Chief Minister of Bihar with 17 years and 288 days.
