Imtiaz Ali Reveals He Was Advised Not to Cast Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor in Jab We Met

The film ‘Jab We Met’ proved to be an important milestone in the career of not only Imtiaz Ali but also its lead actors – Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor. But if Imtiaz didn’t agree, then Kareena and Shahid would not have been there in this film. Imtiaz Ali was advised not to cast Shahid and Kareena in ‘Jab We Met’. In fact, they will get an even better cast. The director himself has made this disclosure in an interview. Imtiaz Ali is currently in the news for his film ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’, which was released recently on the OTT platform Netflix. He recently spoke to ‘IndiaToday’ about Jab We Met and its casting. Imtiaz Ali was asked whether there is pressure on him to choose actors according to their popularity or market value?

Shahid Kapoor and Kareena not in ‘Jab We Met’?

On this, Imtiaz Ali said, ‘Luckily, the situation of casting actors in my career has been different, whether it is a matter of popularity or market value. Every time I got different opportunities and I chose actors accordingly. I remember a time, when Shahid and Kareena came for ‘Jab We Met’. And then I was told that we can get better actors than him. Actually, Kareena and Shahid were not walking at that time. Things were not well between them also. But on the contrary, the film lasted so long.

Imtiaz said- Filmmakers should not pay attention to rumors

Imtiaz Ali further said, ‘You know how much people liked ‘Jab We Met’. So, I feel that as a filmmaker I should not look at the film market like a stock exchange. No film director or producer should pay attention to speculations and rumours. Whatever role you are giving to a particular person, you must see his potential.

‘Jab We Met’ the highest grossing film of 2007

‘Jab We Met’ was released in the year 2007. Apart from Shahid and Kareena, the film also featured actors like Dara Singh, Saumya Tandon and Tarun Arora. It was the highest grossing film of that year. Shreya Ghoshal and Saroj Khan also won National Awards for ‘Jab We Met’.
