A Glimpse into “Singham Again”
Back in 2011, Rohit Shetty delivered a resolute figure to Hindi cinema – a steadfast officer draped in khaki, now etched as an icon. Although ‘Singham’ took root from a southern cinematic narrative, Ajay Devgan infused the character with such vigor and righteousness that it swiftly resonated, forming the cornerstone of Shetty’s ‘Cop Universe.’ Fast forward 13 years, and ‘Singham Again’ has evolved into a sprawling ensemble, much like a banyan tree embracing numerous branches with the addition of Simba (Ranveer Singh), Suryavanshi (Akshay Kumar), Lady Singham Shakti Shetty (Deepika Padukone), and Satya (Tiger Shroff).

However, this grand assembly of characters veils Singham’s signature prowess. As the ranks grow, Singham’s own commanding aura seems somewhat diluted amidst this star-studded battalion.
The Story of ‘Singham Again’
Drawing its essence from the legendary Ramayana, the film navigates through a world where Singham’s (Ajay Devgan) wife, Avni (Kareena Kapoor Khan), is abducted by Zubair Hafeez (Arjun Kapoor), who stands as the antagonist inspired by Raavan. Known as Danger Lanka, Zubair is the progeny of Omar Hafeez (Jackie Shroff), a former terrorist whom Singham vanquishes at the film’s onset. Consumed by vengeance for his kin, Zubair embarks on a vendetta against Singham.
In this contemporary retelling of the epic, one wonders if virtue will triumph over vice. Yet, the intrigue lies not merely in the narrative’s climax but in the confluence of remarkable personalities driving the tale. The story unfolds from Kashmir, with Singham curbing local terror activities, then meandering through Madurai, where Lady Singham (Deepika Padukone) makes her entrance. Soon, Satya (Tiger Shroff) steps in, embodying a modern-day Lakshman in Rameshwaram, with Simba and Veer Suryavanshi following suit. But in the quest to accommodate each character’s track, the screenplay distances itself from Singham’s central role, slightly undermining his intended grandeur.
Reviewing ‘Singham Again’
Ajay Devgan’s moments on-screen are compelling, but the thrill of his iconic line “Aata Majhi Satkali” is scarcely echoed, leaving fans with only a taste of his previous dynamism. Sunil Rodrigues’s choreographed sequences inject visual appeal, yet Shetty’s formulaic tropes of car explosions and flamboyant stunts now feel repetitive, offering little by way of novelty. The film’s decision to intertwine the Ramleela subplot within the primary storyline occasionally disrupts its pace, detracting from narrative flow.
As for performances, Ajay Devgan carries his role with unmatched intensity, while Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, and Tiger Shroff deliver commendable, albeit brief, appearances. Kareena Kapoor Khan’s presence feels understated. Ranveer Singh, however, as Simba, commands attention, infusing scenes with spirited charm. Arjun Kapoor, embodying the antagonist, brings a sincere effort to his portrayal, yet his characterization lacks the gravitas of a formidable Raavan, leaving the intended menace somewhat short.
Visually, the film excels with striking cinematography, though tighter editing could have amplified its impact. The background score, which once stirred audiences in previous installments, falls slightly flat here. Salman Khan’s cameo as Chulbul Pandey is notable yet doesn’t quite evoke the anticipated allure.
Why Watch: If you’re inclined towards action-packed sagas and are loyal to the Singham series, ‘Singham Again’ offers a stellar cast against the backdrop of Shetty’s action choreography.
