In India, banks typically close on public holidays, encompassing both national and state-specific occasions. Moreover, festivals like Diwali, Christmas, Eid, Guru Nanak Jayanti, Good Friday, and others are also observed as bank holidays. Furthermore, the second and fourth Saturdays of each month are designated holidays as well.
With April marking the third month of the year, it brings along a fresh list of bank holidays to be mindful of. In April 2024, banks will observe closure on 14 days, although this may vary across states or regions. These closures encompass the second and fourth Saturdays and Sundays, along with public holidays and certain regional holidays. The determination of these holidays is made jointly by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the respective state governments.
During these holidays, services such as Internet banking and ATMs will remain operational.
The first holiday for the month of April 2024 commences with the annual bank closure on 1st April. Following this, there are holidays such as Eid al-Fitr, spanning two days on April 10th and 11th, during which banks will remain closed across India, with exceptions in certain states. Bank Holidays As per RBI Regulations
As per RBI regulations, banks are shut on Sundays and also on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month. By the Negotiable Instruments Act, RBI has specified holidays on April 1, 5, 9, 10, 11, 13, 15, 17, and 20. Additionally, four Sundays are falling on April 7, 14, 21, and 28, as well as the second and fourth Saturdays on April 13 and 27.
As per the Reserve Bank’s schedule, aside from weekends, there are a total of nine bank holidays in April 2024. Everyone should plan any significant bank-related tasks with the holiday schedule in mind.
